No. 11 Avon prevails to beat Hall and remain undefeated at 5-0

WEST HARTFORD, Sept. 20 – No. 11 Avon prevailed in a marathon third game that went to 33 points and beat Hall-West Hartford, 3-1 to improve to 5-0 on the season.

The Falcons dropped the opening game of the match by four points, 25-21 but tied the match with a 25-17 decision in game two. In game three, the Falcons outlasted Hall with a 33-31 victory. Avon secured the win with a 25-15 decision in game four.

Junior Emily Dempsey led Avon with 22 kills and 13 digs while Kayceety Mullaj added seven kills. Junior Abby St. Onge did a nice job at setter with 34 assists. Sophomore Noelle Powers had 25 digs while sophomore teammate Eliza Jures had five blocks.

The Falcons return to action on Monday when they travel back to West Hartford to face Conard (2-2) at 5 p.m.

Eight teams earned No. 1 votes in the first state girls volleyball top 10 poll. Undefeated Southington (5-0) received 10 first place votes and earns the No. 1 ranking in the first poll of the season. There are four Central Connecticut Conference teams in the top 10 led by No. 1 Southington, No. 2 RHAM, No. 4 Farmington and No. 7 Bristol Eastern. Undefeated Avon is ranked No. 11 in the state
