Three Canton High players earn All-State honors

C logo, Canterbury C for CantonCANTON, Dec. 22 – Three Canton High players earned first team All-State honors for their play on the athletic fields this fall.

Soccer players Jack Freedenberg and Brooke Shepard earned All-State honors along with field hockey defender Maddie Bahre. Fourteen Canton athletes earned All-Conference honors in their respective sports.

Freedenberg scored two goals and helped solidify the Warriors lineup this fall. Canton finished 10-6 and won two games in the Class S tournament before being eliminated by Morgan in the quarterfinals, 3-1.

Shepard scored a goal and helped the Warriors win a team-record 10 games this fall. Canton finished 10-6 and closed out the regular season with a six-game winning streak. The Warriors lost to Portland in the second round of the Class S tournament, 5-2.

Bahre scored three goals this season but helped the Warriors with her outstanding play in the defensive end of the field. Canton went 8-8 in the regular season but had a nice run in the Class S tournament winning two games by shutout before being eliminated by Granby, 2-0.

Each of Canton’s fall sports teams participated in the school’s fall outreach initiative which was Play4theCure, raising nearly $400 for breast cancer research.

The teams also participated in other community service initiatives. The cross country team put wood chips on the trail behind the school and new boards over some wetlands to make the trail easier to run on and easier for the public to walk on the trail.

The girls soccer team did a youth soccer clinic while the field hockey program hosted a youth clinic for youngsters in town.

The volleyball team continued to raise money for the “Holden it Down for Morgan” fundraising program and participated in a walk for food and fuel in September.

The football team auctioned off some leaf raking with the winner getting the team coming to their home and clearing the yard of leaves.

The boys soccer and girls soccer team had a benefit scrimmage and collected food for the Canton Food Bank.
