ROCKY HILL, January 26 – With three individual champions and seven finalists, No. 10 Avon easily won the 11th annual Doc Myers Brawl at the Hill tournament on Saturday in Rocky Hill.
Avon scored a tournament record 261½ points with 10 wrestlers finishing in the top three of their respective weight classes. Windham High was second with 195 points with Longmeadow, Mass., taking third with 166.
The Falcons snapped the previous record of 235 points set in 2009 by Brewster, N.Y. High School. It’s Avon’s first tournament win of the season and their first since winning the Plainville Invitational in December 2017.
Tyler Dickenson (182), Chris Gens (220) and Henry Schrecengost (285) each won individual championships for Avon. Dickenson dominated Bunnell’s Brandon Toscano in the finals, 13-2 while Gens pinned Oxford’s Jason Madden in 50 seconds to win at 220.

Schrecengost pinned Berry Lachlan of Longmeadow in 1:00 to win a title. Schrecengost also won the tournament’s fast fall award with three pins in 3:02.The fast fall award goes to the wrestler with the most pins in the least amount of time.
Four Avon wrestlers finished second led by Jack Colman, who dropped a one-point decision, 5-4, to E.O. Smith’s Ben Holden in the championship match at 160 pounds. Grant Corbett (138) lost to Windham’s Luis Rodriguez, 6-1 and Amir Johnson (195) was pinned by Lucas Olson of Longmeadow, Mass. Ryan Bagnadassarian finished second at 106.
Alex Rostenberg (120), Max Jacobs (126) and Justin Meador (132) each finished third to help Avon pick up key points in the consolation round. Jadon Folkwein (171) and Nick Deluca (113) each took fourth.
The victory helped Avon remain ranked No. 10 in the latest Connecticut Wrestling Online poll. The Falcons have been ranked in the top 10 all season long, getting as high as No. 9 in the second week of the poll in early January.
Avon (18-0, 4-0 CCC North) wrestles for their first CCC North title on Wednesday when they host Manchester at 6 p.m. at the high school. The Falcons can win the championship with a victory over the Indians.
It would be Avon’s first title since leaving the North Central Connecticut Conference following the 2016 season.
