Canton’s Peter Fuller takes second in high jump in indoor national meet

NEW YORK, March 10 – Canton High’s Peter Fuller is jumping very well as the winter fades away.

Canton junior Peter Fuller finished second at an indoor national meet in New York City Saturday in the high jump.

Fuller had a school-record leap of 6-foot-7 last weekend to finish second in the New England championships. Fuller did it again on Saturday at the New Balance Indoor Nationals, taking second in the Emerging Elite high jump competition.

Held at the New York Armory, Fuller finished in a three-way on top of the leader board with Kendall Artis of Raleigh, North Carolina and Kavin Caster of Crofton, Maryland. All three jumped 6-7 but Artis finished first because he didn’t miss a single jump at 6-7.

Fuller cleared 6-7 on his second jump to finish second while Caster cleared 6-7 on this third jump to earn the bronze medal.

Two other local athletes participated in the meet.

Canton’s Chelsea Mitchell competed in the girls long jump and she finished 33rd with a leap of 17-9 feet on her second leap of the afternoon. She didn’t make the final.

Avon’s Jack Martin finished 20th in the freshman 1 mile run with a time of 4:39.75 seconds.
