Avon hits four home runs and tops Bulkeley for sixth win in seven games

Avon High freshman Jackie Pengel hit two home runs and struck out 13 on the mound to lead the Falcons to a 17-2 win over Bulkeley on Monday.

AVON, April 29 – Avon High freshmen Jackie Pengel and Amanda Hasler each hit two home runs to lead the Falcon softball team to a 17-2 win over Bulkeley-Hartford in five innings in a Central Connecticut Conference contest at Fisher Meadows on Monday.

Avon had 15 hits as the Falcons improved to 6-1 with their fourth straight win. The Falcons have given up just two runs in the last four games.

Pengel got the job on the mound. She allowed just one hit and struck out 13 for her fifth complete game of the season. Pengel has fanned at least 13 batters in each game she has pitched this season.

At the plate, Pengel was 5-for-5 with a pair of home runs, a triple, two singles and five RBI.

Hasler, who plays at catcher, was 2-for-4 with two home runs and five RBI. Hasler has hit a team-leading four home runs in the first seven games of the season for the Falcons.

Another freshman Elizabeth Jerger was 3-for-5 with a double while Kendra Hards was 2-for-2 with a double.

Avon gets a good test on Wednesday when they host Farmington (7-3) at 3:45 p.m. at Fisher Meadows.
