Farmington softball team pitches a shutout in 11-0 win over Avon

Kaitlyn Hards had one of Avon’s four hits in Tuesday’s 11-0 loss to Farmington.

AVON, May 1 – Madison Blades and Shelby Smith had three hits each while pitcher Anna Mihalek allowed just four hits to lead the Farmington High softball team to a 11-0 win over Avon at Fisher Meadows Tuesday.

Blades was 3-for-5 with a double and one RBI while Smith was 3-for-4 with a double. Caroyn Piera was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI for Farmington (8-3). The Indians led 3-0 after five innings but exploded for eight runs in the seventh inning.

On the mound, Mihalek limited the Avon attack, just surrendering singles to Jackie Pengel, Amanda Hasler, Kaitlyn Hards and Nicole Detora. Mihalek struck out 10 Avon hitters.

Pengel (6-1) got the start for the Falcons on the mound and allowed nine hits while striking out 11.

Avon returns to action on Thursday when they travel to Platt High in Meriden for a 3:45 p.m. contest. The Falcons also play at Wethersfield on Friday at 4 p.m.
