Enfield handcuffs winless Avon with a 6-3 victory

Avon pitcher Daniel Bae got the start in Wednesday’s 6-3 loss to Enfield.

ENFIELD, April 10 – The Enfield High baseball team had just three hits against Avon on Wednesday but they were all doubles. Two doubles drove in three runs as Enfield held off Avon, 6-3 in Central Connecticut Conference play.

Enfield (2-0) built a 6-1 lead after two innings and were able to keep the winless Falcons (0-4) grounded. Enfield pitcher Devon Edwards went five innings to earn the win, striking out five and walking three.

Avon (0-4) was led by Miles Borenstein with a two-run single in the third inning and Jake Coppen with a RBI single in the first inning.

Enfield was led by Edwards, who was 1-for-2 with a double and Kyle Bak, who was 1-for-2 with a double and two RBI. Zack Healey also doubled for the Eagles, who scored two runs in the first inning on a pair of wild pitches. Only two of Enfield’s six runs were earned.

Avon returns to action on Monday when they travel to West Hartford to challenge Conard at 3:45 p.m.
