FCIAC teams continue to dominate top 10 girls lacrosse poll

Top ranked Darien contines to challenge themselves against out-of-state competition. The Blue Wave (6-0) remain No. 1 in the latest Connecticut high school girls lacrosse coaches poll with all 13 first place votes.

Darien faces a pair of out-of-state foes this week when they tangle with Bishop Ireton from Virginia and Eastport-South Manor, N.Y. Two of Darien’s last three games have been against out-of-state foes. The Blue Wave beat Radnor, Pennsylvania, last week, 9-6.

New Canaan (6-1) remains at No. 2 after beating Longmeadow, Mass., for the first time in three years on Saturday with an 11-5 decision. Wilton (5-0) remains at No. 3. Cheshire (6-1) moved up one spot to No. 4 while Staples slipping to No. 5. Seven of the top 10 teams in the poll are from the FCIAC.

Pomperaug (7-0-1) is the only Class M team in the top 10 at No. 9. New Fairfield (6-0) is the only Class S team in the top 10. The Rebels are tied with Pomperaug at No. 9.

Undefeated Canton (5-0) was scheduled to challenge New Fairfield on Saturday but the game was postponed due to rain. The game was rescheduled for next Wednesday, May 1, at 5 p.m. in New Fairfield.
