Glastonbury explodes in fifth inning to beat Avon, 16-0 in five innings

AVON, April 5 – The Glastonbury High baseball team had eight hits and three doubles in the fifth inning to break open the game and beat Avon at Buckingham Field, 16-0 in five innings in a CCC West contest on Friday.

The Tomahawks (2-0) had a 4-0 lead going into the fifth inning but had seven hits with two outs and took advantage of four walks. Noah Diamond and Anthony Pellegatto each had two-run doubles for Glastonbury while Luke Stephen had a three-run double.

Stephen was 3-for-4 with a double, home run and four RBI to lead Glastonbury. Diamond was 3-for-5 with a double and three RBI while Pellegatto was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI.

Pitcher Michael Freeney picked up the win, going five innings and striking out seven. He allowed just three hits.

Avon (0-2) received singles from Zach Aiello, Daniel Bae and Miles Borenstein. Jake Coppen got the start on the mound and took the loss.

The Falcons return to action on Monday when they host Platt-Meriden (2-0) at 3:45 p.m. at Buckingham Field.
