
Avon outfielder Nicole Detora was 2-for-4 with two RBI as the Falcons beat Platt on Thursday, 9-3.
MERIDEN, May 2 – Jackie Pengel, Amanda Hasler and Nicole Detora each had two hits as the Avon High softball team moved one win away from their first CIAC tournament berth in 18 years with a 9-3 Central Connecticut Conference win over Platt High on Thursday.
Avon (7-3) needs one more victory to secure their first CIAC Tournament berth since 2001.
Pengel was 2-for-2 at the plate with a pair of doubles while Hasler was 2-for-4 with one RBI. Detora was 2-for-4 with two RBI. Pengel got the job done on the mound, limiting Platt to six hits and striking 13 batters.
Avon broke a 1-1 tie with two runs in the third inning on a two-RBI single by Detora. In the fourth inning, Avon extended the lead to 4-1 on when Hards walked with the bases loaded. Elizabeth Jerger followed with a two-run single and Hasler gave Avon a 6-1 lead when she scored on a passed ball.
The Falcons return to action on Monday when they host Hall High at Fisher Meadows at 3:45 p.m.
