Little change in top 10 girls lacrosse poll as postseason approaches

New Fairfield moved up one spot to No. 8 in the state coaches poll this week.

The CIAC girls lacrosse state tournaments are a few days away from beginning and the conference tournaments are underway.

While the season is changing, there was little change in the top 10 girls lacrosse state poll as voted by coaches from across the state. Darien (16-2) and New Canaan (15-3) have been ranked No. 1 and No. 2 all season long, respectively, and things are no different in week 7.

Darien beat New Canaan on May 4 by a single goal, 11-10, and the two teams will meet again Wednesday night at Norwalk High in the FCIAC championship game beginning at 7 p.m.

New Fairfield (16-1), the top-ranked team in Class S, had a 14-game winning streak snapped with an 11-10 loss to Staples but they were still able to move up one spot to No. 8 in the poll. Newtown replaced Pomperaug at No. 10.
