Caputo wins 4th dual meet as Canton boys and girls pick up 3 wins each

SIMSBURY, October 2 – Canton High junior Julia Caputo won her fourth dual meet of the season on Wednesday as the Warrior girls cross country team earned three victories at Stratton Brook Park.

Caputo prevailed with a winning time of 21:52, beating teammate Maeve Balavender by nearly three minutes. Teammate Grace First was third overall as the Warriors beat Coventry, 23-32. Canton (10-2, 8-2 NCCC) also swept East Windsor and HMTCA.

In the boys race, Canton (9-3, 7-3 NCCC) earned three wins with runners finishing fourth through tenth place. Sean Richard was fourth for the Warriors with a time of 20:04 with Matt Barton finishing fifth. Kevin Csizmesia was sixth while Ryan Nickerson (7), Gabriel Mower (8), Keith Thomas (9) and Liam O’Donnell (10) rounding out the top 10.

Canton beat Coventry, 25-36, topped HMTCA, 20-43 and shutout East Windsor, 15-50.

Canton returns to action on Saturday at the Woods Trail Run in Thetford, Vermont.

Avon idle
AVON, October 2—The Avon High boys and girls cross country teams were idle this week. A scheduled meet at Bristol Central on October 1 was cancelled. The Falcons return to action on Tuesday, October 8 when they close out their CCC West schedule with a meet at Winding Trails against Farmington.

Upcoming championship meets
Canton, Avon and Granby will be competing in league championship meets on Wednesday, October 16. Canton and Granby will be at the North Central Connecticut Conference (NCCC) championship meet on October 16 at Bolton High. The girls race is at 3 p.m. with the boys race at 3:45 p.m. Avon will be at the Central Connecticut Conference (CCC) championship meet on October 16 at Wickham Park in Manchester.
