Forward Alyssa Wohlfeiler scored four goals as the Connecticut Whale beat the Buffalo Beauts, 7-1, Saturday in the Whale’s first Premier Hockey Federation preseason game of the season at the Northwell Health Ice Arena in East Meadow, N.Y.
Katerina Mrazova, Taylor Girard and rookie Lenka Serdar also scored for the Whale in the victory, who had three goals in the second and third periods, respectively.
Emma Nuutinen scored a short-handed goal for Buffalo in the second period past Connecticut goalie Abbie Ives.
Connecticut plays their final preseason contest on Saturday when they host the Metropolitan Riveters at noon at the Milford Ice Arena – the team’s practice facility.
The Whale open their 2022-23 PHF season at Boston on Saturday, Nov. 5, against the defending Isobel Cup champions at 7 p.m.
The first of nine home games for Connecticut at the International Skating Center in Simsbury will be Friday, Dec. 9 when the Whale host the Minnesota Whitecaps at 7 p.m.
The preseason game with Buffalo was played on Long Island at the practice home for the NHL’s New York Islanders.
Earlier this year, the Whale announced that they would further extend their partnership with the Islanders’ Girls Elite Hockey program with specific members of the Whale acting as guest coaches at select practices throughout the Islanders Elite season.
Representing the Whale on the ice during Islanders Elite practices will be 2022 PHF MVP Kennedy Marchment, Allie Munroe, and former Whale goaltender Jessica Strack.
Whale general manager Alexis Moed is also the president of the Islanders Elite program. Together, the two programs have worked to build a bridge between women’s professional hockey and youth organizations creating a one-of-a-kind partnership and reinforcing the Whale’s commitment to growing women’s and girls’ involvement in ice hockey across the tri-state area.
