Gallagher scores 23 as Simsbury tops Berlin for season opening win

BERLIN, Dec. 13, 2022 – Amanda Gallagher scored a game-high 23 points and drained five-three point shots as the No. 8 Simsbury High girls basketball team opened the season with a 55-38 win over Berlin Tuesday night in Central Connecticut Conference action.

Lauren Sabia had 22 points for the Trojans while Faye Kaplinski pulled down 13 rebounds and blocked three shots.

Simsbury led by eight after one quarter, 16-8 and at the half, 28-20 before extending the lead with a strong third quarter effort. The Trojans led 43-25 after three.

Jenna Wenzel led Berlin (0-1) with 14 points.

Simsbury returns to action on Friday night when they play their home opener against Enfield beginning at 6:45 p.m.

New Britain 40, Lewis Mills 30
NEW BRITAIN, Dec. 13, 2022 — Lillian Martineau scored nine points and Abrina Wroblewski added six but New Britain used a fourth quarter surge to beat Lewis Mills, 40-30, in the season opener for both teams on Tuesday night. The Hurricanes outscored Mills, 16-4 in the final period.
