HARTFORD, April 10, 2023 – UConn starting pitcher Stephen Quigley gave up a solo home run and two hits in the first inning of Monday afternoon’s game at Dunkin’ Park against Central Connecticut State.
But after he got a strikeout to leave the bases loaded, he gave up just one hit and struck out a career-high 10 batters in the next five innings to lead No. 20 Connecticut to a 10-4 victory at the home of the Hartford Yard Goats in downtown Hartford in front of nearly 1,000 fans.
Luke Broadhurst gave the Huskies the lead in the second with a two-run homer, his sixth of the season, to make it 2-1. The Stafford Springs, Conn. native finished the day with three runs batted in, his fifth multi-RBI game during his 11-game hit streak.
Bryan Padilla drove in three runs on the afternoon for the Huskies (23-8) with a pair of run scoring doubles. Catcher Matt Garbowski recorded his second three-hit in the last five games and scored a career-high three runs in the game.
It was the second of three games that the nationally-ranked Huskies will play in Hartford this spring. UConn will face Yale at Dunkin’ Park on Tuesday, April 25 at 6:05 p.m. It was the second game of a six-game series of collegiate baseball games at the park. On Wednesday, Hartford, in the midst of its final season of Division I baseball, will face Yale at 5:05 p.m.
The Huskies return to action on Tuesday, April 11, at 3:05 against Bryant at Elliot Ballpark in Storrs.
