AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL
Highlights: Zone 1 teams West Hartford and Bristol won their respective groups to move into the semifinals of the Stars and Stripes tournament with the winner earning an automatic bid to the Connecticut American Legion state tournament. West Hartford blanked Ridgefield to win the West Hartford group while Bristol beat Ellington, 6-5 to win the Middletown group. Bristol will meet West Hartford in the semifinal with South Windsor and Waterford meeting in the other semifinal.

Highlights: A pair of three-run home runs in the eighth inning led the Yard Goats to a 7-5 victory over the Fisher Cats in front of 6,808 at Dunkin’ Park. Starter Blake Adams tossed five scoreless innings to earn his fourth win.  Hartford took a 1-0 lead in the fifth on an RBI fielder’s choice from Bryant Betancourt. The Yard Goats added six more in the seventh inning on three-run blasts from Jose Torres and Zach Kokoska, extending the Hartford lead to 7-0. The Fisher Cats scored five in the eight, but the Yard Goats were able to hold on for a 7-5 win.  The Yard Goats improved to 5-1 in the second half and have won 4 in a row and 9 of their past 11 games.  Adams retired the first 12 batters of the game with three strikeouts. Mason Green and Carson Skipper each pitched a scoreless inning.

Highlights — Kyle Karros cranked a two-run home run in the 9th inning leading the Yard Goats to a 6-5 victory over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats in front of 7,124 fans at Dunkin’ Park. The Fisher Cats led 5-1 in the 8th inning. The Yard Goats responded with a three-run eighth on RBI hits from Montgomery and Jose Torres, along with a sacrifice fly from Bryant Betancourt, making the score 5-4. Braiden Ward led off the ninth with a walk, and Karros followed with a two-run home run to left field, his second walk-off homer of the season. The Yard Goats have won five of their last six games.

Hartford remained undefeated (2-0-1) in the USL Jägermeister Cup after battling to a tie with Detroit (2-1). The visiting team from Michigan earned an extra point in the Group 4 contest by winning on penalty kicks, 3-2. Sebastian Anderson and Michee Ngalina had first period goals for Hartford. Detroit’s Matthew Sheldon had two goals, including a free kick just outside the corner of the 18-yard box in stoppage time. This was the third of four Group 4 contests. Hartford faces Rhode Island in the final group contest on July 26.

Highlights: Jack Mahoney fired five shutout innings to earn his first Double-A win, as the Hartford Yard Goats beat the New Hampshire Fisher Cats 3-1 in front of 6,327 fans at Dunkin’ Park. Mahoney was impressive as he tied his longest outing of the season, allowing two hits and two walks while striking out four batters, helping the Yard Goats defeat New Hampshire for the third time in four games. The right handed pitcher has allowed just one run in his last three outings at Dunkin’ Park, good for a 0.75 ERA in 12 innings pitched. The Yard Goats scored two runs in the second inning and another in the seventh off a Kyle Karros solo homer. Juan Guerrero had two singles and now leads the club 18 multi-hit games.  Hartford is now 3-1 in the Eastern League second half of the season and looks to seal a series win tomorrow night.

Highlights: The Sun set a new franchise record for futility on Friday night with a record eighth straight loss in a 97-81 loss to Seattle. Connecticut (2-14) was led by Aneesah Morrow with a career-high 20 points and 11 rebounds off the bench. Bria Hartley had a season-high 19 points while Olivia Nelson-Ododa scored 12 points and pulled down six rebounds. Five players finished in double-figures for the Storm, led by veteran guard Skylar Diggins who tallied 24 points, one rebound, five assists and one steal. Gabby Williams and Nneka Ogwumike each added 16 points.

The Yard Goats defeated the New Hampshire Fisher Cats by the score of 3-1 on Tuesday night at Dunkin’ Park in the official start of the second half of the Eastern League season.  Mason Green, Victor Juarez, Collin Baumgartner, and Brayan Castillo combined to hold the Fisher Cats to one run. Hartford pitching had 10 strikeouts with just one walk. Juarez pitched 2.2 scoreless innings to earn the win and improved to 5-1. Braiden Ward had two hits with an RBI and Benny Montgomery had a triple and scored. Hartford’s Kyle Karros established a new franchise record reaching base in 32 consecutive games with his first inning walk.  He extended his hit-streak to 11 straight games with a double in the 5th inning.  Yard Goats starter Mason Green recorded his longest outing of the season, pitching 3.1 scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and striking out three batters. Green’s ERA in June is now at a stellar 1.80 in 10 innings pitched. Binghampton won the Northeast Division in first half of the season with the Yard Goats (36-33) finishing second, 10 games off the pace.

Highlights: East Granby/Granby scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to force extra innings. East Granby/Granby loaded the bases with one out thanks to two walks and a hit batter before a double drove in three runs. One more run scored on an error and a steal of home to tie the game at 6-6. In the bottom of the seventh, East Granby/Granby won the game when the runner scored from third on a wild pitch. Simsbury took a 6-1 lead in the top of the sixth inning on a two-run double and a ground ball out.
