Highlights:
Bryant Betancourt homered, but the Yard Goats lost the final game of a six-game series to the Akron RubberDucks in front of 7,258 fans on Sunday afternoon at Dunkin Park’. The Yard Goats took an early 1-0 lead in the second on Betancourt’s home run, but Akron tied the game 1-1 in the fourth on an RBI single from Guy Lipscomb. Kyle Karros gave the Yard Goats a 4-2 lead in the seventh, plating two on an RBI single. Karros previously extended his on-base streak to 26 games in the sixth inning, the second longest active streak in the Eastern League. Akron pulled ahead in the eighth on a two-run home run from Cameron Barstad and an RBI single from Genao.

Local athletes: Avon’s Brahm Bulow was 20th in the 3,200 meters with a time of 9:34.40. Canton’s Lucy O’Connor was 18th in the high jump with a leap of 5-0.

COLLEGE BASEBALL

Records: Bristol 7-2, Danbury 4-3. The Blues won their third straight game and extended their lead in the Southern Division to 1.5 games with the win. Canton’s Nate Lincoln played at DH, went 0-3 but scored a run. He is hitting .233 on teh season for the Blues.

Highlights: Benny Montgomery’s first-inning RBI single was the Yard Goats only offense in a 7-1 loss to the Akron RubberDucks in front of 6.981 fans at Dunkin’ Park. Akron jumped ahead in the first inning on a four-run frame, including two home runs.  Akron starting pitcher Tommy Mace became the Eastern League’s first seven game winner as he combined with three relievers to limit the Yard Goats to just one run.

Despite positive attacking momentum and several dangerous chances for Hartford Athletic, the Boys in Green fell 2-1 at Trinity Health Stadium. MD Meyers scored for Charleston in the first half and the Battery made it 2-0 on a goal from Nanan Houssou early in the second half on a powerful shot off the right foot of Houssou. Hartford’s TJ Presthus scored in the 80th minute. Teammate Sebastian Anderson lost his defender with a fancy bit of footwork and a cross off. Presthus got his head on it, powerfully redirecting the ball into the back of the net.

Highlights: The Yard Goats pitching staff combined to tie a season-high with 15 strikeouts, but lost to the Akron RubberDucks 5-0 in front of 6,933 at Dunkin’ Park.  Cooper Ingle and Guy Lipscomb each homered and Rodney Boone fired six scoreless innings as the RubberDucks evened the series at 2-2.  Hartford pitcher Sean Sullivan struck out a season-high 10 batters and turned in a quality start.  Kyle Karros led the offense for Hartford with two doubles and extended his on-base streak to 25 consecutive games. Sullivan was sharp early and carried a no-hitter into the fourth inning before Cooper Ingle hit a solo home run to right field, giving Akron a 1-0 lead.

Highlights: Bryant Betancourt blasted a go-ahead 3-run home run in the eighth inning as the Hartford Yard Goats beat the Akron RubberDucks on Thursday night at Dunkin’ Park in front of 6,647 fans. Betancourt’s HR was his second in three games, and both were game-winning bombs. Yard Goats starting P McCade Brown had a solid outing, pitching 5.2 innings, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out nine batters. Brown retired 11 batters in a row at one point and now has 20 strikeouts in 12.2 innings pitched with Hartford. In the eighth inning, Braiden Ward homered three batters before Betancourt’s three-run shot. Hartford reliever Brayan Castillo came through when he closed the game in a bases-loaded, two-out situation.

Akron starter Dylan DeLucia made his first career Double-A start, and the former College Baseball World Series Most Outstanding Player was impressive. DeLucia pitched a season-high six innings, allowing just two hits and striking out five batters. Yards Goats 3B Kyle Karros doubled tonight, extending his on-base streak to 23 games.

It was the Yard Goats third walk-off home run this season. Kyle Karros reached base for the 22nd straight game, and Jose Torres extended his hit-streak to five games. Yard Goats starter Jack Mahoney threw four scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and striking out three.
