Tina Charles had a team-high 24 points, six rebounds and two steals in just 19 minutes of action as Connecticut had their most lopsided win of the season with a 95-64 win over the expansion Golden State Valkyries at the Mohegan Sun Arena. Charles was 8-of-11 from the field. Marina Mabrey returned to the starting lineup after a nine-game absence due to knee injury and had 15 points and a team-leading four assists. Bria Harley also scored 13. Iliana Rupert scored 13 for Golden State (11-13), who had 24 turnovers. The Sun (4-20) had a season-high in points (95), field goal percentage (53), field goals made (35), three-point shots (12) and steals (14).

Toronto Blue Jays prospect Trey Yesavage retired all 12 batters faced, as he combined with two relievers to hold the Yard Goats to one hit in a 6-0 victory on Saturday night at Delta Dental Stadium. The Yard Goats got a one out double by Juan Guerrero in the sixth inning off reliever Alex Amalfi. The Fisher Cats scored three runs over the first three innings and added three more in the eighth to defeat Hartford for the second straight game. The Yard Goats wrap up the road trip tomorrow afternoon and return to Dunkin’ Park on Tuesday to host the Reading Fightin Phils.

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats got an impressive start for Juaron Watts-Brown and defeated the Hartford Yard Goats 7-3 in the fourth of a six-game series on Friday evening at Delta Dental Stadium in Manchester, New Hampshire. The Fisher Cats righty went seven innings and allowed just one run while earning his second win of the season. Jose Cordova had a two-run double and Jared Thomas had his second straight multiple hit game. Eddinson Paulino hit a pair of two-run homers for the Fisher Cats. The two clubs have split the first four games.

Tina Charles had 24 points and 10 steals to lead the Sun (3-20) while Olivia Nelson-Ododa had 17 points, four rebounds and two blocks. Bria Hartley added 16 points for the Sun. Marina Mabrey made her return to the court for Connecticut after missing the last nine games with a left knee injury. Mabrey played 26 minutes, scoring seven points with three assists and two steals. The Sparks improve to 10-14.

Connor Staine faced the minimum batters in three of his five innings, and earned his second win as the Yard Goats beat the New Hampshire Fisher Cats for the second time in three games 6-3 at Delta Dental Stadium. Jared Thomas broke a 3-3 tie with a go-ahead solo home run in the third inning off Blue Jays prospect Kendry Rojas and the Yard Goats never looked back while winning their 50th win of the season. Zach Kokosak cranked his 31st career home run in Hartford, the second most in franchise history. Thomas had four hits, including a homer, double and scored three runs. Hartford relievers Sam Weatherly, Bryce McGowan and Welinton Herrera combined to fire four scoreless innings.

On Monday, Lincoln, a second baseman for the Bristol Blues, was selected as the Southern Division player of the week in the New England Collegiate Baseball League. Lincoln, who played baseball at Marist College, had 10 hits in 16 at bats in the past week. He played in four games, reached base three times in all four games and had five RBI. He had three hits and two RBI in a 6-3 win over Ocean City last week.

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats used a pair of four run innings to beat the Hartford Yard Goats 10-2 in the second of a six-game series on Wednesday afternoon at Delta Dental Stadium. The Fisher Cats scored four runs in the first inning, and after the Yard Goats made it a 4-2 game, added four more runs in the fourth inning while ending a five-game losing streak against Hartford. The Yard Goats’ Cole Carrigg earned his 36th stolen base tying a franchise record held by Rosell Herrera from the 2016 season. The Yard Goats scored the first run of the game in the first inning on an RBI single by Juan Guerrero off Fisher Cats starter Grant Rogers. The run was set up on a leadoff walk by Cole Carrigg who stole second base, and scored from second on the hit.

Left-hander Sean Sullivan pitched into the seventh inning and earned his eighth win on his 23rd birthday as the Yard Goats defeated the New Hampshire Fisher Cats 4-2 in the opener of a six-game series at Delta Dental Stadium. Sullivan struck out nine batters and retired 19 of 21 batters during a stretch from the first through seventh inning, helping the Yard Goats win their third consecutive game. The Yard Goats got Sullivan four runs in the first inning, including a double by Cole Carrigg and two-run homer by Braylen Wimmer. The Yard Goats try for the fourth straight win in a 12:05 PM day game on Wednesday.

Gerry deSimas, Jr., is the editor and founder of The Collinsville Press. He is an award-winning writer and has been covering sports in Connecticut and New England for more than 40 years. He was inducted into the Connecticut Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2025 and the New England High School Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2018.
