Canton booters rally to beat Rams; Mills harriers win a pair; Avon golfers top Simsbury

CANTON, Sept. 20, 2022 – Thomas Gibbons scored a goal thanks to a Ryan Weller assist with 18:50 left in regulation to lift the Canton High boys soccer team to a 2-1 win over Rockville in North Central Connecticut Conference play Tuesday on the turf field in Canton.

Rockville (2-2) had a 1-0 lead at the half thanks to a goal from Sebastian Patino.

The Warriors (3-1) tied the game with a goal from Raheim Nelson off an assist from Spencer Abbott with 26:17 left in regulation. Gavyn Munson made four saves in net to earn the win for the Warriors.

Mills sweeps, Avon splits

Lewis Mills’ Nicholas Atkins and Apollo Josephson finished first and second as the Spartans swept a boys cross country meet with victories over Bristol Eastern, 18-43, and Berlin, 15-45 in a tri-meet at Page Park on Tuesday. Atkins beat Josephson by three seconds with a winning time of 19:35 over the 3.1 mile course. Mills had five of the top six runners in the race.

In Glastonbury, Will Lancaster finished second with Thomas Armistead (fourth) and Will Nusom (ninth) earning top 10 finishes as the Avon High boys cross country team lost to host Glastonbury, 23-32, while beating Conard, 21-37. Lancaster was seven seconds off the pace in the 2.7 mile race.

Lewis Mills swept
In Bristol, Berlin had five of the top seven runners to sweep Bristol Eastern, 19-42 and Lewis Mills, 15-50. The Spartans also lost to Berlin, 15-15. Mills was led by Ginny Mullin, who was third with a time of 25:08 over the 2.7 mile course.

AVON, Sept. 20, 2022 – The Avon High boys golf team had three golfers shoot under 40 as the Falcons earned an 11-stroke win over Simsbury, 156-167, at Blue Fox on Tuesday. Avon’s Nathan Gaul earned medalist honors with an-even par 36. Blake Barrett (38) and Tyler Gresch (39) also broke 40 for the Falcons (6-4).
