UNCASVILLE, July 27 – An exciting and thrilling summer of baseball ended for the Avon Major Division baseball All-Star team (ages 11-12) Wednesday night as Glastonbury American won the Section II tournament with a dominating 11-0 win in four innings.
Glastonbury, which was undefeated in the Section II tournament at 6-0, advances to face defending state champion Fairfield American in a best-of-3 series to determine the state championship. Avon finishes the season at 10-3, 3-3 in Section II with two losses to Glastonbury.
Glastonbury began hitting early, taking a 4-0 lead after one inning, thanks in part to a two-run home run. For Avon, Ian McDonald had a double and Justin Olson and Jack Prete had singles. Prete made a nice defensive play at third base, tagging out a Glastonbury runner.
