For the second time in less than a year, Canton’s Michael LeDuc is being recognized as a national caliber Scholar Athlete.
The senior from Connecticut College in New London was named at the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association’s Scholar Athlete of the Year for the fall cross country season.
LeDuc also won the same award last spring during the outdoor track and field season.
LeDuc, a 2013 first team selection on the Capital One Academic All-America team, is a botany major at Connecticut College with a 3.78 grade point average. He won the NCAA Division III national championship in cross country in December.
The Connecticut College men’s cross country team was recognized with the Academic Team award. The Camels had the fifth highest overall team average in the nation (3.54), finishing behind Amherst (3.66), Washington University (3.65), Cal Tech (3.61) and Centre College (3.58).
“One of our team goals every year is to be named a All-Academic team,” said Jim Butler, Connecticut College’s head coach in men’s cross country. “To have the team once again earn one of the five highest GPAs in the country after finishing fourth a year ago, and for Mike to win the Scholar Athlete of the Year award says a lot about our program at Connecticut College. I am very proud of these guys.”
