CANTON, July 1 – Canton’s Mike Bowes was 3-for-3 at the plate and pitcher Jim Spirito threw a complete game but the Lakeville Firemen scored five runs in the first two innings to earn a 6-1 Tri-State League victory Tuesday evening at Bowdoin Field. Spirito (0-4) struck out three and pitched four scoreless innings.

Spenser Griffin had a double and a run scored for the Crushers, who slip to 0-13 in their first season. Griffin doubled in the first inning, stole third and scored on an error. Brian Kulik and Jon Scippa also had singles for Canton.

Griffin and his brother, John, each had great catches in centerfield and left field, respectively.

Lakeville (7-7) pitcher Brandon Coe struck out nine over six innings while reliever Jacob Foley added another strikeout in the seventh. The Firemen were led by Ryan Kahl, who was 2-for-3 with a two-run home run. Mark Dignacco and A.J. Watt were each 2-for-4 with one RBI. Jake Farrell and Coe were each 2-for-3 at the plate.

Canton has an 11-day break before they host the final home game of the season on Saturday, July 12, at 1 p.m. at Bowdoin Field when they face the Amenia Monarchs. Canton will finish the season with four consecutive roads games at Watertown (July 13, 1 p.m.), Naugatuck (July 20, 5 p.m.), Bethlehem (July 23, 6 p.m.) and Terryville (July 26, 1 p.m.).
