SIMSBURY, March 6 – Simsbury High has named long-time assistant coach Dave Masters as the new head coach of the football team.
“After a thorough application and interview process, it was clear to the hiring committee that Dave possesses the knowledge, passion, and enthusiasm to lead our Trojan football team to new heights,” said Dane Street, athletic director at Simsbury. “We are very happy to have him take the reigns of this program.”
Masters replaces Jeff Osborne, who resigned in December after eight years leading the Trojans to spend more time with his family. Osborne went 39-46, leading Simsbury to two CIAC playoff berths in 2009 and 2008. Simsbury was 4-7 last fall and posted losing records in four of the last five seasons.
Masters has been coaching football for 23 years in Connecticut including 18 years as an assistant football coach at Hall High (six years) and Simsbury (12 years). For the past five years, he has been the assistant head coach at Simsbury. He also served as an assistant coach for team Connecticut in the All-Star game with Rhode Island in 2009 and 2010.
Masters also the head coach in baseball at Simsbury and will begin his fifth year in April behind the bench.
A graduate of Springfield College with a Masters Degree from Central Connecticut State University, Dave has been an educator in West Hartford since 1993. He lives in Simsbury with his wife and two kids.
“I am excited and honored to be named as the newest head coach at Simsbury High School,” he said. “I’m looking forward to the opportunity to lead a program I have been a part of for so many years.”
Masters is the ninth football head coach at Simsbury since 1933.
