Canton boys and girls each sweep East Granby and Windsor Locks

Track logo DSC_1740CANTON, April 13 – Dustin Van Kirk, John Solomon and Will Briggs each won two events to lead the undefeated Canton High boys track and field team to easy victories over East Granby and Windsor Locks Wednesday. The Warriors (7-0, 6-0 NCCC) earned their 72nd consecutive dual meet victory dating back to the 2010 campaign.

For the Canton girls, Amber Harraden and Emily Mitchell each won three individual events as the Warriors swept East Granby and Windsor Locks to improve to 4-3 on the year and 4-2 in the NCCC.

The Canton boys dominated in a 136-13 win over East Granby and a 132-18 win over Windsor Locks. The Warriors won all three relay races (4×800, 4×400, 4×100). Van Kirk won the 110 high hurdles and triple jump while Briggs swept the shot put and discus with a season-high throw of 164 feet, five inches. Solomon won the 200 meters and high jump.

Other winners for Canton included Zach Oliver (1,600), Matthew Pickett (400), Jesse Waite (300 hurdles), Max Sparks (800), Trent Sawtelle (3,200), Cameron Lange (long jump), Stephen Oliver (pole vault) and Will Carlson (javelin).

Windsor Locks beat East Granby, 67-46.

In the girls events, Harraden swept the triple jump, shot put and javelin. Mitchell captured the 100 meters, 200 meters and long jump as Canton beat East Granby, 111-32 and Windsor Locks, 112-39. East Granby gained a split with a 56-50 decision over Windsor Locks.

Other individual winners for Canton included Abby Briggs (400), Lucy Tanner (100 hurdles), Jane Frawley (3,200), Abby Skinner (high jump) and Elizabeth Raynor (pole vault).

Canton returns to action next Tuesday when they host Hartford Classical and Enfield at 4 p.m. at home.
