Baseball ImageWETHERSFIELD, April 18 – Sophomore James Sullivan was 3-for-4 with three RBI to lead the Wethersfield High baseball team to a 8-1 victory over Avon in Central Connecticut Conference play Monday afternoon at Esposito Field.

Sullivan had a two-RBI single to left field in the third inning that gave the Eagles an early 3-0 lead that they never relinquished. The Eagles (3-1) rapped out 12 hits off Falcon hurler Will Boone. Sophomore Tyler Fote was 3-for-3 with one RBI for Wethersfield while teammate Brian Viera and Jordan Laske were each 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Avon (3-2) was limited to just four hits by Viera, who went seven innings to pick up the win. He struck out four and had no walks.

Avon’s lone run came on a RBI single from Brendan Dyer in the seventh inning. Sean Del Gallo, Ian McDonald and Adam Therriault also had hits for Avon, which has lost two straight after winning their opening three contests.

Avon returns to action on Wednesday, April 20 with a game at Conard followed by a trip back to West Hartford on Thursday to face Northwest Catholic.

POLLS: Avon was ranked No. 15 in the New Haven Register’s latest top 10 sportswriters poll with 100 votes. The Falcons will probably drop out of the rankings next week. Southington, which Avon beat on Friday, 5-3, slipped two spots from No. 6 to No. 8 in the state.
