AVON, April 16 — Avon High senior Abby Laszewski was one of five players named to the American Family Insurance’s All-USA Connecticut girls basketball team. In partnership with USA Today, All-State teams are selected in each state.
Laszewski, a 6-foot-3 center, was named to the team after averaging 18.1 points and 10.4 rebounds a game this season for the Falcons. Laszewski, who had 3.9 blocks per game, will be going to Wisconsin in the fall. She was also named to the All-Courant basketball by the Hartford Courant.
The state player of the year is forward Desiree Elmore of Capital Prep in Hartford. Elmore helped the Trailblazers win a fourth straight state championship, averaging 26.7 points, 15.7 rebounds and 3.7 steals per game. She will attend Syracuse.
Other first team players on the All-USA Connecticut team were Weaver guard Shaq Edwards, Stamford guard Tiana England and Greenwich forward/center Abbie Wolfe. Kelly Maher, who helped lead Cromwell to the Class M championship and a perfect 28-0 record, was named coach of the year.
