Lacrosse: Avon boys dominate Berlin; Canton girls take care of Suffield

Lacrosse stickAVON, April 13 – Chase Gordon scored a game-high five goals as the Avon High boys lacrosse team improved to 3-0 with a dominating 14-1 win over Berlin in a Central Connecticut Conference match Wednesday.

The Falcons (3-0, 0-0 CCC Central) have outscored their opponents 37-9 in the first three games of the season. Gordon leads the team with eight goals with Dan Magrini and Brendan Brown with six goals each. Goalie Drew Durate earned his third win of the season, combining with teammate Cullen Baker to make 10 saves.

Jack Jones had three goals for Avon while Magrini had two. Luke Meaney, Nick Baldwin, Brown and Quinn Haines each had one goal.

Avon returns to the field Saturday when they travel to Bethel for a 1 p.m. contest.

Canton 16, St. Paul 10
CANTON, April 13 – The Warriors (1-4, 0-2 NCCC) earned their first win of the season Wednesday with a 16-10 non-league victory over St. Paul-Bristol on the turf field.

Canton 15, Suffield 4
CANTON, April 13 – Grace Giancola scored seven goals and Emma Charron had four as the Canton High girls lacrosse team remained undefeated with a dominating 15-4 NCCC victory over Suffield on Wednesday at the turf field.

Kaelyn Oliver also scored four goals for the Warriors (3-0, 2-0 NCCC) who received eight saves in net from goalie Amanda Gottlieb. Delaney Tierney scored three goals for Suffield (1-2).

The Warriors return to the field on Friday when they host Somers at 4:30 p.m. Canton hosts Ellington at 4 p.m., on Monday on the turf field.
