AVON – The Avon High Booster Club will be hosting the 23rd annual Richard Migli benefit golf tournament on Tuesday, May 17, at the Golf Club of Avon. All proceeds from the event directly benefit Avon student athletes by funding purchases of equipment, resources and scholarships.

Sports fans from the community are invited to join the fun as a golfer (nine or 18 holes) and/or as a donor. Lunch and dinner will be included. There will be a live auction for a handful of items and a silent auction, too. If you’re not interested in golf, you can come for dinner. Details, registration and donor forms can be found awww.migligolf.golfreg.com.

Migli, a talented Avon High athlete, died in 1993 after a courageous battle with Lou Gehrig’s Disease (ALS). A member of the class of 1970, Migli excelled in football, basketball and baseball, earning 12 varsity letters. He had a passion for athletics and good sportsmanship.

Bob Maxon of NBC-30 will be the emcee. Former athletic director Bob Summers, who was recently inducted into the Connecticut Athletic Director Hall of Fame, will be attending as an honorary guest. Former Avon High baseball and football coach Dick Kelliher and plenty of Migli’s former classmates from 1969-70 are scheduled to return.

The event is made possible by title sponsor Northwest Community Bank; gold sponsors Avon Plumbing and Heating, Eversource, Lawrence Brunoli and Yamin & Grant and generous business and individual donations from the community.

Since 2009, the Collinsville Press has been providing award-winning coverage of sports and news in the Farmington Valley and across Connecticut.
