ROCKY HILL, May 2 – Grace Giancola had six goals while Emma Charron added four to lead the Canton High girls lacrosse team to a 19-6 victory over Rocky Hill Monday. Two days after losing to No. 11 Fairfield Warde on Saturday by four goals, the Warriors scored a school record 19 goals in a single game.

It breaks the old mark of 18 goals set in an 18-9 win over Suffield in April 2015 and a 21-18 loss to Somers in April 2013.

Giancola had 10 points in the game – six goals and four assists while Charron had eight points (4 goals, 4 assists). Kaelyn Oliver had a season-high five assists and two goals. Also scoring for Canton (9-1) was Emily Gabrilear (2 goals), Allie DelSanto (2 goals) and Anna Holland, Carly Atkinson and Jess Rogawlski.

Canton goalie Amanda Gottlieb made eight saves in net to earn the win. Emily Zurrilli had two goals for the Terriers, now 2-6.

The Warriors can clinch their first-ever NCCC championship with a win in their final two league games. Canton (9-1, 6-0 NCCC) can win the title on Friday when they travel to face Somers (7-3, 3-2 NCCC) at 4:30 p.m. The Spartans lost to defending Class S champion Granby on Monday, 15-11.  Canton closes out league play at Ellington on May 10.

NOTES: Fairfield Warde, which beat Canton, 10-6 on Saturday, is ranked No. 11 in the latest state coaches poll. The top five teams (Darien, New Canaan, Greenwich, Ridgefield, Wilton) are all from the FCIAC.
