Volunteers are needed to join together and help remove trash from the banks of the Farmington River on Saturday, Sept. 24, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at various locations in Avon, Canton, Farmington, Simsbury and Windsor.

The Farmington River Watershed Association is helping organize the event. More than 200 volunteers helped a year ago. The FRWA will be securing the necessary supplies for the big day – gloves, bags, napkins, apples, cider – along with lunch and breakfast for the volunteers.
Call the FRWA at 860-658-4442 or email [email protected] to register. You can join one of the following teams.

  • Avon: Fisher Meadows. Help the Lions Club of Avon clean up the river bank here.
  • Barkhamsted:  Call FRWA for meet up location.
  • Bloomfield: Meet at Farmington River Park. Clean up from 10-noon.
  • Collinsville: Meet at Collinsville Canoe & Kayak. A tent and snacks will be available.
  • Farmington: Meet at the Town Hall Complex. Register with FRWA for details.
  • Simsbury:  Meet on the front lawn of FRWA headquarters in downtown Simsbury. This is our main spot and also the place to grab some breakfast before heading out or get some pizza and other lunch items after you are done.
  • Windsor: Meet at Windsor Town Hall to clean popular Windsor locations such as the boat launch at the reservoir and Pleasant Street Park. Please register with FRWA for details.

Several restaurants are donating food and drinks to help the effort including Antonio’s in Simsbury (sandwiches), Starbucks (coffee) and Little City Pizza in Simsbury.

There is also a need for pickup trucks or other large vehicles to get trash collected from the river banks to dumpsters donated by Waste Material Trucking Company in Unionville.
