No. 3 Suffield dominates Canton girls soccer

SUFFIELD, Oct. 18 – The Suffield High girls soccer team continues to have little trouble scoring goals. The defending NCCC champion Wildcats improved to 12-0 on Tuesday with a 6-0 win over Canton.

Alyssa Bergamini and Alexis Bergamini each had two goals each for Suffield while Syndey Lupone and McKenzie Sullivan had single goals. Madelynn Dunnigan and Sullivan had two assists each.

Jessica Cunningham and Alyssa Cashman combined to have four saves as Suffield, ranked No. 3 in the recent Class LL/L state coaches poll, shutout their opponent for the ninth time in 12 games.

Canton (2-8-1) received 15 saves from Abby Treacy in net. The Warriors, who battled Windsor Locks to a scoreless tie in overtime on Saturday night in Canton, were blanked for the seventh time in 11 games. Under first-year coach Alex Uscilla, the Warriors have scored 11 goals this season.

Canton, which lost to Ellington, 3-0, on Wednesday afternoon at home on the turf field, travel to Windsor Locks on Friday for a 5 p.m. contest at Veteran’s Field. The Canton boys soccer team plays the Windsor Locks boys at 7 p.m. on Friday.
