Spirit Week in Avon begins next week with full slate of games under the lights

AVON – Avon High will hold their annual October Spirit Week games under the lights next week beginning next Monday under portable lights at the high school.

Along with the games, the Avon High Booster Club will be donating proceeds from the bake sales at the contests to Vie for the Kids – the initiative to fund cancer clinical trials treatment and research at the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center.

Vie for the Kids also provides financial support for cancer patients and their families.

Spirit Week begins next Monday night when the boys soccer team hosts Simsbury at 6:30 p.m. On Tuesday, Oct. 25, the Avon girls soccer team hosts No. 1 Glastonbury at 6:30 p.m. On Wednesday, Oct. 26, Avon will host a big CCC match with undefeated Farmington, currently the No. 1 ranked team in the state. On Thursday evening, the Avon field hockey program hosts Conard beginning at 6 p.m.

On Friday night, Oct. 28, the Avon High football team will welcome back former head coach Brett Quinion and the Lions from Northwest Catholic for a 6:30 p.m. contest.

The final event of Spirit Week will be under the bright Sunday morning sunshine with the Falcon 5K road race on Sunday, October 30 at 8:15 a.m. Fee is $15 for students and senior citizens online and $20 on race day. Fee for adults is $20 online and $25 on race day. Online registration closes on October 28.

  • Wednesday, Oct. 26: VOLLEYBALL: Farmington at Avon, 6 p.m.
  • Thursday, Oct. 27: FIELD HOCKEY: Conard at Avon, 6 p.m.
  • Friday, Oct. 28: FOOTBALL: NW Catholic at Avon, 6:30 p.m.
  • Sunday, Oct. 30: RUNNING: Falcon 5K road race at AHS, 8:15 a.m.
