Avon boys lacrosse team earns first-ever regular season win over Bethel

Avon sophomore Will Avery (1) scored a team-leading five goals in Avon’s win over Bethel on Saturday.

AVON, April 22 – Sophomore Will Avery had five goals while freshman Ryan Varano and senior Chase Gordon had four goals each as the Avon High boys lacrosse team won their second straight match with a 16-12 non-league decision over Bethel Saturday at Buckingham Field.

The Falcons (4-3) beat Bethel for the first time in a regular season contest. The Falcons did eliminate Bethel in the first round of the 2016 and 2015 Class M state tournament.

Quinn Haines had two goals for Avon while Eric Schweitzer picked up one goal. Sophomore goalie David Triggle picked up the win in goal for the Falcons.

With an 18-7 win over Suffield earlier in the week, the Falcons have combined to score 34 goals in their last two victories.

Avon returns to action on Wednesday when they host RHAM at 4 p.m. The Falcons close out the week by hosting Glastonbury next Friday at 4 p.m.
