SUFFIELD, April 13 – Twice, the Suffield High boys lacrosse team built up leads of five goals. The first time, Canton reduced the lead to one at halftime. The second time, the host Wildcats had enough to hold off the Warriors in a 13-11 NCCC victory on Thursday morning at Ted Beneski Field.
Trevor Sharp had four goals while Dan Farhead had three goals and three assists as Suffield (1-4) earned their first victory of the season. For Canton (1-3), Jake Sullivan led the way with four goals while C.K. Giancola had four goals and an assist. Matt Walzak had two goals for the Warriors.
Suffield took an early 5-0 lead on a pair of goals from Sharp and Motherway. But Canton fought back, scoring six of the next eight goals in the game. Walzak scored with 6:15 left in the second quarter to cut the lead to two, 7-5 while Sullivan cut the lead to one goal, 7-6 with a score with 2:33 left in the first half.

In the third quarter, it was another slow start for the Warriors. Suffield scored the first four goals of the second half and five of the six goals to take an 11-6 lead. Canton scored five of the next seven goals in the contest to cut the lead to two with 2:16 remaining in the game but couldn’t get the equalizer.
Canton returns to the field on Wednesday, April 19, when they host Granby at 4 p.m. The Warriors have lost three straight games.
