Avon’s Tyler Hahn earned All-New England honors by finishing in a three-way tie for second place Tuesday in Keene, N.H.
KEENE, N.H., June 20 – Avon High junior Tyler Hahn shot a three-under-par 69 to finish in a three-way tie for second place at the 2017 New England boys golf championship tournament Tuesday at Bretwood Golf Course. Ryan Quinn of Winnacunnet, New Hampshire won the event with a six-under-par 66.
Hahn, who qualified for the New England tournament by finishing third at the CIAC Division II tournament, is believed to be the third Avon boys golfer to compete in the New England tournament.
A year ago, former teammate Jake Avery was tied for sixth with a 74 while Jay Molchan shot an 84 in 2001.
Hahn had six birdies and just three bogeys. He began on the 10th hole with a par before a pair of bogeys at No. 11 and No. 12. But he rallied to consecutive birdies at 13, 14, 16 and 17. On the front nine, he birdied the first two holes. “The day was amazing,” Avon High coach Josh Glick said. “He played really well.”
Greenwich’s Jackson Fretty and Chris Francoeur of St. John’s Prep in Danvers, Mass., also shot a 69.
In the girls tournament, Farmington’s Mia Grzywinski finished tied for fourth with a 74. The top five golfers earned All-New England honors.
The best finish by an Avon at the New England tournament came in 2013 when Marissa Grillo tied for first place with a 75 but ended up fourth in a four-person playoff. Grillo competed in the New England for three consecutive years.
