AVON, July 3 – The Avon Little League baseball team beat East Granby Monday night in the District 6 Major Division tournament, 13-5 at Sperry Park for their third victory this summer.
With the win, Avon (3-1) clinched a spot in the double-elimination portion of the tournament along with Torrington (3-1) and Canton (3-1). East Granby finished pool play with a 1-3 record.
Each Major Division team (ages 11-12) played four games in pool competition with the top teams from the two five-team pools advancing to the double elimination portion of the tournament that begins on Sunday, July 9.

Avon is the two-time defending District 6 champion. Avon beat Simsbury in the D6 championship game a year ago, 12-2.

The winner of the District 6 tournament advances to the state tournament beginning July 19 in Terryville. The D6 champion plays the District 3 and District 5 champions in a round robin with the winner moving on to the four-team state championship tournament.

Other District 6 Little League tournaments are also underway. In the Major Division (ages 11-12) softball tournament, Torrington won the D6 title with a 7-0 record, beating Granby/East Granby in the championship game, 3-2.

In the D6 Junior Baseball tournament (ages 13-14), Torrington won the title by sweeping a pair of games from Avon, 12-2 and 14-0. In the D6 Junior Softball tournament, Granby/East Granby/Windsor swept a pair of games from Canton/Burlington/Simsbury, 8-2 and 6-1 to win the district championship.
In the 9-10 softball tournament, Torrington won the D6 title with a 13-5 and 4-0 sweep over Thomaston.
