HIGGNAUM, Sept. 20 – A year ago, the now-graduated Grace Giancola dominated the boxscore for the Canton High girls field hockey team scoring 28 goals – the highest number of goals by a player in a single season in 14 years, since 2002.
This year, the Warriors have more than one scoring threat. Laura DiMartino scored two goals and an assist last week as Canton split a pair of games – shutting out Stafford, 3-0, to earn their first NCCC victory of the season before dropping a 2-1 decision to Haddam-Killingworth. Ashley Huff scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season in the loss to the Cougars.

Haddam-Killingworth (2-2) scored twice in the first eight minutes of the second half to have Canton (3-1-1, 1-0-1 NCCC) their first loss of the season.
