CANTON – The Canton High field hockey team is undefeated through three games including their first win over Farmington in 11 years. Now, the Warriors try to continue their winning ways this week with a pair of road games at Stafford on Tuesday afternoon and at Haddam-Killingworth on Wednesday.
Canton (2-0-1, 0-0-1 NCCC) beat Northwestern, 2-0 in their season opener on Sept. 11 and the next day beat Farmington for the first time since 2006 with a 3-2 victory. The Warriors battled Suffield to a scoreless tie on Sept. 14 to open the NCCC campaign.
Against Suffield, goalie Jessica Szczepanski made 6 saves in goal to earn her second shutout of the season. Canton got off eight shots on net against the Wildcats.
Against Farmington, sophomore Abby Charron had two goals and Julianna Iovine had a pair of assists in the contest. Charron scored off an Iovine assist with 22:54 left in the first half to give Canton an early lead before Farmington’s Leid Ficks tied the game with 12:33 left in the first half.

Just 50 seconds later, Canton regained the lead on Charron’s second goal of the game off an assist from Fiona McNally. Canton extended its lead to 3-1 on a second half goal from Ashley Huff – her third of the season – off an assist from Iovine with 22:22 remaining in the game.
Farmington cut the lead to one on another goalie from Ficks with 9:21 remaining but Szczepanski and the Canton defense didn’t allow any more goals. Szczepanski made five saves in net as did Farmington goalie Lauren Rebillard.
Farmington held a 6-2 edge in penalty corners and a 13-12 edge in shots on goal.
Huff had two goals in the win over Northwestern while Szczepanski made three saves in net to earn the win. Charron had one assist.
