Avon native Madison Kennedy has won two events swimming in international meets in Italy this month.
At the Nico Sapio Trophy meet in Genoa, Italy this past weekend, Kennedy won the 50 meter freestyle with an outstanding meet record time of 24.33 seconds. It beat the old record of 24.39 seconds, set 17 years ago by Germany’s Sandra Volker in 2000.
Kennedy beat Kim Busch of the Netherlands, who was second in 24.67 seconds while Italy’s Erika Feraioli was third with a time of 24.68 seconds. It is the ninth fastest short course (25 meter pool) time of the season in the world.
Kennedy also swam in the 100 meters and was fifth with a time of 52.22 seconds.
At the 21st annual Bolzano swim meet in Bolzano, Italy, Kennedy won the 50 meter freestyle for the fifth time in meet history. Kennedy won the race with a time of 24.88 seconds – the only swimmer to swim under 25 seconds in the event. The meet was held Nov. 4-5.
In the 100 meters, Kennedy finished third with a time of 54.76 seconds to grab the bronze medal. Dutch Olympian Kira Toussaint won the event in 54.10 seconds.
