BOSTON, March 3 – Canton’s Max Sparks finished tenth in the one mile race at the 2018 New England Indoor Track and Field championships at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston on Saturday. Sparks was one of two Canton athletes at the New England championships.
Freshman Julia Caputo also qualified. She ran in the two mile race and was 22nd with a time of 11:42.96. Caputo qualified with a sixth place finish at the recent State Open in the 3,200 meters. She is the first Canton girl to participate at the New England indoor meet.
Sparks qualified thanks to a seventh place finish at the State Open in the 1,600 meters and earned an invitation when of the top six declined to participate. He is one of four boys to participate at the New England meet and first since Keith Wilson ran the 55 meters in 2014.
Dinedye Demis, Simsbury’s State Open champion in the 55 meters, took second in New England in the 55 meters with a time of 7.27, just off the pace set by Springfield Central’s Kyla Hill in 7.14 seconds.
