WEST HARTFORD, April 10 – Kate Shaffer had seven goals to lead the Conard High girls lacrosse team to a 17-7 victory over Avon in Central Connecticut Conference play on Tuesday. Seven players scored for the Chieftains, who handed Avon their first loss of the season.
Mollie Morrison led Avon (1-1) with five goals while Peyton Edwards and Sydney Walters also scored for the Falcons. Gillian Haverty, Anna Czajkowski, Cate DiGiacomo and Coco Havery each had two goals for Conard while Ali Turner and Ally Tousignant added one goal each.
For Avon, Ann Hayes made 10 saves in goal while Maggie Yezza stopped three for Conard to earn the win.
Avon won their season opening game on April 5 with a 12-3 win over Rocky Hill. Morrison and Rachel Spivak each had four goals for Avon while Edwards had two goals. Walters and Sarah Murphy scored one goal each. Hayes had six saves in goal to earn the win for Avon.
Avon returns to action on Friday when they travel to face undefeated Granby (6-0) under the lights beginning at 5:30 p.m.
