
Avon’s Ryan Ollestad had one of Avon’s four hits and a stolen base in Monday’s 13-2 season-opening loss to Platt High in Meriden.
MERIDEN, April 9 – Ethan Dudley was 3-for-4 with two singles, a double and two RBI while teammate Jack Clancy was 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and four RBI to lead the Platt High baseball team to a 13-2 season opening victory over Avon on Monday.
Platt (1-0) had 11 hits in the win and scored six runs in the first three innings off Avon starting pitcher Connor Harris, who allowed seven hits and struck out three.
Platt’s Edisson Ortiz shut down the Falcons (0-1), limiting Avon to just four hits and two runs over six innings. He struck out just one but went the distance on the mound for Platt.
Jake Coppen had a double for Avon while Ryan Ollestad, Zack Aiello and Harris each had singles. Trailing by five runs, Avon scored their lone two runs on an error and a balk in the third inning.
It was Avon’s first game against Platt since 2013 when the Falcons beat Platt, 4-3, in the first round of the Class L tournament.
The Falcons return to the field on Wednesday when they host Enfield in their home opener at 3:45 p.m. at Buckingham Field. Avon travels to Cooperstown, N.Y., on Friday when they will face Conard at 1 p.m. at historic Doubleday Field.

MERIDEN, April 9 – Peter Phillips was 2-for-3 with a double, home run and three RBI to lead the Simsbury High baseball team to a 12-0 win over Maloney in five innings on Monday. Tate Valerio was 2-for-3 with a single, triple and one RBI for the Trojans (1-1). Pitcher Brandon White went the distance on the mound, earning the victory. He gave up just two hits and struck out six.
