CANTON, May 7 – The Canton High girls softball team scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to get past Sport Medicine Science Academy, 5-3, in a North Central Connecticut Conference game Monday.
Trailing by one run, Canton (4-8, 4-7 NCCC) loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth inning on a Kate Horvath single and a pair of walks by SMSA hurler Jesse Beebe. Winning pitcher Loren Mossey was hit by a pitch at the plate to drive in one run.
Canton’s Emma Love drove in the go-ahead run on an infield ground ball. The Warriors took a two-run lead when Mossey and Love stole third and second base, respectively, with Mossey scoring on an error by the catcher.
Mossey pitched the final four innings, allowed just one hit and striking out five to earn her second win of the season. Canton’s Bailey Edgren got the start and went three innings, allowing three hits and striking out two.
Mossey was 2-for-2 for the Warriors with one RBI while Love was 1-for-4 with a two-RBI double. Aisley Hill also doubled for Canton.
For SMSA (4-8, 4-7 NCCC), Mayer was 2-for-4 with a triple while Lyndsey Broxton was 2-for-4 with one RBI.
Canton travels to Rockville on Tuesday and Stafford on Wednesday.
