
Canton catcher Jake Bryant was 2-for-4 with two RBI in Saturday’s Tri-State League loss to Southington.
CANTON, June 16 – The Amenia (N.Y.) Monarchs scored eight runs in the final two innings to pull away from the Canton Crushers in a 10-5 Tri-State League victory Saturday at Bowdoin Field and sending the Crushers to their fourth straight loss.
Canton (1-7) took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning on a two-out single from Jake Bryant that scored Taylor Riley from second base. Amenia (5-2) took a 3-1 lead in the sixth inning but Canton cut the lead to one run in the seventh inning. Chris VandeBogart doubled and scored on a RBI single from Jon Scippa.
But the Monarchs scored three runs in the eighth inning off reliever Jamie Coen and added another five runs in the ninth inning to take commend of the game. Caleb Huff was 2-for-5 with three RBI and a key two-run double in the sixth inning for Amenia. Teammate Dylan Santori was also 3-for-5.
VandeBogart had two doubles for Canton while Jon Scippa had two hits. Jake Bryant was 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Canton returns to action on Tuesday night when they travel to Litchfield (4-3) to face the Cowboys at Community Field beginning at 5:30 p.m.
On Thursday night, Winsted (3-5) scored five runs in the fourth inning to break open a two-run ballgame and earn a 10-1 decision over the Crushers at Bowdoin Field. Jeff Negron went the distance for the Whalers on the mound, striking out five and giving up just three hits and one run.
Brian Kulik was 2-for-2 for Canton while Heath Cotton also singled. Andrew Billig was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and one RBI for Winsted while Johnny Lippincott was 2-for-3 with two RBI.
A week ago, the Crushers gave up 23 hits and committed six errors in a 19-8 loss to Southington under the lights at Recreation Park. Canton’s Taylor Riley had a three-RBI triple in the eighth inning while Jake Bryant had an RBI single in the fourth inning. Jeff Mulhall and Ian Bassert each had singles for Canton.
