With season-high 16 hits, Simsbury tops Suffield for third straight win

SIMSBURY, April 12 – Blake Chapman, Ryan Laubscher and Luke Benneche were each 3-for-4 as the Simsbury High baseball team ripped a season-high 16 hits in a 9-5 non-league victory over Suffield at Memorial Field Friday.

It was the first home game of the season for Simsbury (3-1), which has won three straight games.

Suffield (3-3) took an early 2-0 lead but the Trojans responded with nine consecutive runs, scoring in five straight innings to take control. Simsbury pitchers Luke Benneche (2-1) and reliever Dylan Leonard combined to allow just four hits and fan eight.

Laubscher was 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI to lead Simsbury while Chapman was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI.  Benneche was 3-for-4 with three singles. Leonard was 2-for-2 at the plate with a triple and three RBI while Patrick Kerr added a single and double for Simsbury.

Simsbury returns to action when they travel to Northwest Catholic on Monday for a 3:45 p.m. start.
