Undefeated Simsbury Little League baseball team captures District 6 title

AVON, July 15 – The Simsbury Little League baseball team went undefeated in the District 6 Major Division (ages 11-12) tournament to capture their first D6 championship since 2014.

Simsbury beat Burlington, 7-1 in the championship game at Avon’s Sperry Park to complete a 6-0 run through the District 6 tournament. Simsbury advances to state tournament and the three-team Section II group.

Avon went 2-2 in pool play but was eliminated from the double-elimination portion of the tournament with a 16-1 loss to Burlington and a 10-9 loss to Torrington.

Simsbury also captured the Minor Division (ages 9-11) championship in the District 6 tournament with a 19-4 win over Avon in the championship game. Again, Simsbury went undefeated with a 6-0 record to earn a state tournament berth.

In the 9-10 division, it was East Granby/Granby that captured a District 6 championship with a 11-1 victory over Burlington. East Granby/Granby also went undefeated in the tournament with a 6-0 record. With the victory, East Granby/Granby secured a state tournament berth.

In the District 6 Junior Baseball tournament (ages 13-15), Torrington swept a best-of-3 series with Tri-Town winning two games by scores of 11-3 and 14-1. Torrington advanced to the state tournament.

In softball, District 6 sent three teams to represent the area.

In the Major Division (ages 11-12), East Granby/Granby won a best-of-3 series with Simsbury/Avon. East Granby/Granby swept the series with victories of 19-0 and 13-1. They were the only two teams entered in the D6 tournament.

It was the first D6 title for East Granby/Granby since winning two straight titles in 2015 and 2016.

East Granby/Granby won their first two games in the state tournament with a 12-11 win over Wallingford and a 5-3 win over Oxford to earn a spot in the Section II title game. But Wallingford beat East Granby/Granby, 6-4 to advance to the four-team, double-elimination state final.

Canton was the only district team to field an All-Star team in the D6 Minor Division (ages 10-11) and advanced to the state tournament.

Canton dropped a 15-3 decision to Bristol and a 17-2 contest to the Sprague/Franklin/Canterbury team in Section II. Bristol beat SFC, 12-2 to advance to the state finals.

In the 8-10 division, East Granby/Granby won a best-of-3 series with Simsbury to claim the District 6 pennant and a spot in the state tournament. East Granby/Granby swept the D6 final with victories of 11-1 and 12-2.
