GENEVA, Ohio, August 1 – Avon’s Adam Zapatka finished first in the men’s 1,500 meter freestyle race at the Futures Championships in Geneva, Ohio on Thursday. Zapatka, 17, won the race with a career-best time of 15:47.41. He knocked 10½ seconds off his previous best time and won the race by nearly two seconds.
Zapatka swam a time of 15:57.99 at the Connecticut Senior Championships in July and that time was a personal best at that time, shaving 18½ seconds off his previous best time.
Zapatka, who trains and represents Charter Oak Aquatics, will swim in the 800 meter freestyle here at the Futures Championships on Sunday. He is ranked fifth with a time of 8:28.26.
