Robaczynski, Jones each win Avon Road Race for fourth time

Avon’s Marc Robaczynski leads the pack at the 13th annual Avon Road Race Sunday. Robaczynski and Marisa Jones (339) each won the race for the fourth time.

AVON, May 21 – Avon’s Marc Robaczynski and Marisa Jones are establishing a tradition at the Avon Road Race. Both runners won the 3.1-mile race for the fourth time Sunday morning with Robaczynski winning by 44 seconds and Jones winning by 4:52.

More than 250 runners completed the 13th annual race that begins and ends at Avon’s Pine Grove School. It is a fundraiser for the Pine Grove Elementary School PTO. The race was followed by a Kids’ Fun Run at Pine Grove.

Robaczynski won with a time of 16:32.6, beating Adam Gootnick, who was second in 17:16. Jones finished third overall in the race with a race record time of 17:19.8. Jones, 35, broke her own race record that she set a year ago with a time of 17:32.

Jones has won the race three straight years. Robaczynski has won the race in four of the last five years (2013, 2014, 2016, 2017).

Robaczynski’s four wins is the best for a male runner. Burlington’s Mary Lynn Currier has won the women’s race seven times.

Avon’s Marisa Jones set a new course record in winning the Avon Road Race on Sunday.
