Forecasts for inclement weather on Wednesday and into early Thursday morning inspired many football teams around the state to adjust plans for their traditional Thanksgiving Day football games.
Most games on Wednesday evening were shifted to Tuesday. Many games scheduled for Thursday morning were also moved, including Canton vs. Granby, Avon vs. Gilbert/Northwestern and Lewis Mills vs. Nonnewaug.
Canton will play Granby on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. on the turf field in Canton. Avon, which was planning to play on Thanksgiving for the first time in the program’s history, will have to wait another year to play on Turkey Day. Avon will host Gilbert/Northwestern on Tuesday night at 6 p.m. The Falcons are renting portable lights to illuminate the field.
Lewis Mills’ game at Nonnewaug was also shifted to Tuesday night. The Spartans and Chiefs will play at 6:30 p.m. at Watertown High School. Farmington and Plainville’s game remains set for Thursday morning at 10 a.m. in Plainville.
FOX Connecticut weather is calling for rain and mixed precipitation to begin mid-to-late morning on Wednesday. It should turn to heavy, wet snow during the afternoon and continue through Wednesday night. Snow will end early on Thanksgiving. NBC 30 is forecasting 6-to-10 inches of snow in the Farmington Valley. Once the precipitation stops on Thursday, it should be partly sunny, brisk and chilly with high temperatures in the low 40s.
