HARTFORD, Feb. 10 – Emily Briggs had 15 points and five steals while Maggie Treacy had 14 points and five steals as the Canton girls basketball team moved closer toward a possible NCCC championship with a 59-21 victory over Sport Medicine Science Academy on Tuesday night.
Canton improved to 16-1 overall and 14-1 in the league. A win over Ellington Wednesday night on the road and against Avon (13-4, 13-2 NCCC) on Friday at home at 7 p.m. will give Canton its first league title since 1999.
Jacquie Grabowski had seven points and pulled down a team-leading 11 rebounds. Gabby Rose added 12 points for the Warriors, who gave up just eight points to SMSA in the final three quarters of the game.
Canton closes out the regular season next Tuesday by hosting Windsor Locks.
